Cummins Engine Manifolds For Heavy-Duty Diesel Applications

Cummins makes some of the best engines in the business – but when your manifold isn’t working properly, your whole engine suffers. From reduced fuel economy and check engine lights to coolant leaks, exhaust fumes, and engine misfires, a broken manifold can cause all kinds of problems.

Our Cummins engine manifolds are robust; they’re always brand-new, never remanufactured or rebuilt. Want reliability and longevity? You’re in the right shop.

What Does An Engine Manifold Do?

There are two types of engine manifolds: Intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds. You can think of manifolds as two parts of your vehicle’s respiratory system: Intake manifolds regulate the fuel/air mixture to the cylinders, while exhaust manifolds collect exhaust gases from those cylinders into a smaller number of pipes.

The intake manifold is connected to the throttle body, which regulates the amount of air coming into your engine. Connections also exist between the manifold and the fuel rail and the injectors, as well as the idle air control (IAC) valve, the evaporative purge valve, and several sensors which communicate with your electronic control module (ECM).

The exhaust manifold is also connected to sensors, which help determine whether or not the fuel/air mixture being exhausted is too lean or too rich. It collects all of the exhaust from each cylinder; when gases are exhausted, low pressure also helps improve air intake. The collected exhaust gases are then sent through filters like diesel oxidation catalysts (DOCs) and diesel particulate filters (DPFs) before being released from the vehicle.

When Should You Replace A Cummins Manifold?

A Cummins manifold, whether it’s an intake or exhaust manifold, should be replaced at the same time as any other brand should be replaced: When it stops working properly. Here are some signs that you may need to repair or replace your manifold:

  • Gases are leaking past broken bolts, busted O-rings, or other components
  • Your engine is overheating
  • Your fuel economy has dropped
  • Your check engine light is on
  • You hear a ticking noise (which can be caused by exhaust leaks)

The best way to know if either of your Cummins manifolds needs to be replaced or repaired? Use an OBD-II scanner; if the fault codes you get back are associated with your manifold, you likely need a repair or replacement.
